Modupeola Durojaye, a victim of a car theft incident, recounted the harrowing experience of armed robbers who, posing as officials of the Nigeria Police Force, seized her black 2018 Toyota Sienna along the Benin-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State on Monday night.

The armed thieves intercepted the vehicle with the license plate AA447GS, employing the guise of police officers equipped with flashlights. Durojaye explained to the Punch newspaper that her husband, upon being signaled to stop, parked the car at approximately 8:30 pm. The assailants swiftly attacked him, taking control of the vehicle in the process.

Describing the traumatic incident, she said, “My husband took the car to work that day, then when he was on his way home, around 8:30 pm, he was stopped by some men, who were assumed to be men of the police force with their flashlights. When he parked, they rushed to attack him, and they fled with the car. My husband is still trying to recover from the shock because the incident was traumatizing.”

Durojaye revealed that her spouse sustained injuries while attempting to defend himself during the confrontation with the robbers. The criminals, masked and swift in their actions, used a machete and other dangerous weapons, causing severe harm.

The theft extended beyond the vehicle, as the robbers also seized her husband’s gold wristwatch and ring. To compound matters, they took his purse, containing essential items like his bank ATM card and driving license. Durojaye added that her husband has sought legal recourse by obtaining an affidavit due to the loss of important documents during the incident.
