In a recent development, the Rivers State Government has initiated the demolition of the State House of Assembly building located on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area. The project, aimed at reconstruction, is being carried out by the state government, according to official sources.
This action follows a recent incident where the hallowed chambers of the state assembly were set ablaze by unknown political thugs. The legislative body has been embroiled in a severe crisis, particularly concerning attempts by some lawmakers to impeach the current governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
Commencing at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, the demolition process involved the deployment of over 10 bulldozers, excavators, and other heavy-duty machines to the assembly complex. The demolition officially started around 7:30 a.m., and as of the time of this report, the process is still ongoing.
Further details on the reconstruction and related developments will be provided in subsequent updates.
