Pastor Olumide Emmanuel, the General Overseer of the Calvary Church, has revealed that his first marriage ended due to repeated abuse from his wife over the course of their nine-year marriage. In an interview, Pastor Emmanuel explained that his first wife, whom he did not name, had been married twice before they met, and she had a history of failed relationships.
He shared that his ex-wife experienced challenges from her previous marriages, including one where the marriage was not consummated due to the husband’s alleged sexual dysfunction. Despite learning about her tumultuous past, Pastor Emmanuel went ahead to marry her, believing he could help her overcome her insecurities and emotional trauma.
However, he detailed instances of physical and emotional abuse during their marriage, stating that he was a victim. Pastor Emmanuel mentioned that he tried to address the issues and even sought help from prominent pastors like Dr. Daniel Olukoya and Bishop David Oyedepo. Still, the problems persisted, leading to the eventual breakdown of the marriage.
The pastor emphasized the importance of recognizing early signs of abuse and learning from history to avoid repeating mistakes. He shared his experience to encourage others to be aware of potential challenges in relationships and seek help when needed.
The revelations shed light on the personal struggles and vulnerabilities of individuals, even those in leadership positions, and highlight the significance of addressing issues like domestic abuse openly to raise awareness and provide support for those facing similar challenges.
