In a brazen attack, masked gunmen ambushed and killed Taiwo Oyekanmi, the Director of Finance for the Ogun State governor’s office, on Wednesday. The assailants struck on the popular Kuto Bridge in Abeokuta, less than three kilometers from a bank where Oyekanmi had withdrawn a substantial sum of money for government purposes.

Sources indicate that the attackers, who remained unidentified, made off with the undisclosed amount after fatally shooting Oyekanmi. This tragic incident occurred shortly after the finance director had celebrated his birthday.

Following the attack, Oyekanmi was swiftly rushed to the state hospital in the Ijaye area of Abeokuta, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Family members have been notified of the untimely demise, and Secretary to the State government (SSG) Tokunbo Talabi was reported to be offering condolences to the grieving family at the time of this report.

Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident. However, she maintained that no one died at the scene. Contradicting this, Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu acknowledged the attack and the tragic death of Oyekanmi.

According to the police chief, “This afternoon, the accountant, the Director of Finance, with the driver and one other person left for a bank to make some withdrawal.” The circumstances surrounding the attack and the identity of the perpetrators are currently under investigation.
