Abuja — The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration, led by Minister Nysom Wike, has announced plans to introduce new buses and taxis for public transportation in Abuja, with the aim of addressing the issue of “one chance” criminal operators in the city. Wike made this disclosure during a meeting with estate developers in Abuja.

The introduction of the new buses and taxis is expected to enhance public transportation services and mitigate the risks associated with criminal activities conducted under the guise of commercial operations. Wike assured residents that once the new vehicles are operational, the problem of “one chance” criminal activities would be significantly reduced.

Wike emphasized the commitment to residents’ safety and security, stating that the buses and taxis would cover routes in prominent areas such as Maitama, Asokoro, and other parts of the city. He urged residents to use only authorized vehicles to ensure their safety.

In addition to the measures to combat “one chance” criminal activities, the FCTA intends to address security concerns associated with commercial tricycle operators. Wike announced plans to restrict commercial tricycles in Abuja, citing security reasons and identifying some operators as potential collaborators with criminal elements.

The decision to restrict tricycles was explained as a necessary step to protect the genuine businesses and interests of residents. Wike clarified that the decision was not taken lightly and acknowledged the challenges faced by operators, but stressed the priority of ensuring the overall safety and well-being of the city’s residents.

The move to introduce new public transportation options and address security concerns aligns with the FCTA’s broader efforts to enhance urban mobility, safety, and the overall quality of life for Abuja residents.
