Mr. Nkereuwem Abraham, a former prosecutor with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is calling for the swift prosecution of Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar (UNICAL). Ndifon faces allegations of sexual harassment from some law students at the institution.

Ndifon was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in collaboration with officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC) in October. Despite several invitations, he had reportedly shunned the authorities.

On November 2, the ICPC preferred a 14-count charge against Ndifon following their investigations. Abraham emphasizes the need for a speedy prosecution if a prima facie case is established against the suspended dean.

The former prosecutor highlights the importance of urgency in such high-profile cases, especially considering the sensitivity of the matter involving a renowned academic institution. He stresses that a charge without subsequent arraignment and trial is insufficient in accordance with constitutional provisions.

Abraham urges the ICPC to swiftly arraign the former dean, emphasizing that no suspect should be kept in perpetual detention based solely on filed charges without proper legal proceedings. He emphasizes that matters of this nature should be given urgent attention to uphold the rule of law and showcase the efficiency of anti-graft agencies.
