A 34-year-old man, Suluka Segun, has been brought before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday, facing charges of allegedly assaulting a police officer. Segun, whose address is unknown, is standing trial for the offense of assault.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, informed the court that the incident occurred on September 29th at around 10:00 a.m. in Iyana Eminrin, Ado-Ekiti. According to Oriyomi, the defendant allegedly assaulted and obstructed a police corporal, Fagbelu Olaniyi, causing injury to his right hand palm while the officer was performing his lawful duties.

The alleged offense is said to be in violation of Section 187(b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

Inspector Oriyomi requested an adjournment to allow him time to review the case and gather his witnesses.

Segun, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The defendant’s counsel, Mr. Adeola Adesina, appealed to the court for bail, assuring that his client would not attempt to evade justice.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Bankole Oluwasanmi granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N60,000, with one surety required to provide an equal amount as collateral.

The case has been adjourned until November 17th for a hearing.
