In a decisive operation, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) dealt a significant blow to terrorists lurking in the Tumbuns near Lake Tchad in Borno State. Between 27-30 September 2023, NAF conducted strategic airstrikes, demolishing the terrorists’ hideouts, structures, and their vital logistics base.

This was contained in a statement signed by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force on Monday. The targeted areas, Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu, posed a threat to military establishments and law-abiding citizens residing in the vicinity.

During the operation, NAF surveillance identified terrorists loading jerricans onto concealed guntrucks at Tumbun Fulani. Swift action was taken as NAF aircraft were deployed to intercept the location, which was believed to be a major logistics hub.

The subsequent strike resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of the guntrucks. Similar successful strikes were carried out at Tumbun Shitu, where terrorists’ hideouts were discovered hidden amidst dense foliage.

According to the statement, Three additional guntrucks carrying terrorists were spotted entering the area, necessitating immediate action. The aftermath of the airstrikes revealed a significant number of terrorists neutralized and their vehicles destroyed.

This operation showcases the unwavering commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to curtail the activities of terrorists in the Northeast region and across the country. The achievements made by the AFN are a testament to the enhanced synergy and cooperation among all security agencies, as well as the steadfast support of the Nigerian people.
