In a devastating attack, gunmen targeted the Soro community in Sokoto State’s Binji Local Government Area, resulting in the loss of three lives and the abduction of eight others. The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the incident, which unfolded on Monday.

According to ASP Ahmad Rufai, the state police Public Relations Officer, a group of suspected bandits launched a violent assault on the Soro community. Law enforcement, aided by military personnel, swiftly responded and managed to repel the attackers. However, the frustrated assailants retaliated by setting several houses ablaze, causing the tragic deaths of three residents and injuring others.

In a further grim development, the attackers successfully kidnapped eight individuals, mostly women, whom they whisked away on motorcycles, as disclosed by a local hunter.

The roots of this violence may be traced back to vigilante groups carrying out a reprisal attack on a Fulani community. The situation grew so dire that Sokoto State’s police commissioner, Ali Kaigama, intervened, initiating a dialogue among the affected residents to address escalating tensions.
