A 60-year-old real estate agent, Adeyemi Isaac, has disclosed his reasons for impersonating a serving Commissioner of Police and, on another occasion, an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

According to Isaac, he assumed the identity of police officials in order to assist individuals facing issues with law enforcement.

During a parade of criminals by the Oyo State Police Command in Eleyele, Ibadan, Isaac confessed to impersonating a police chief on four different occasions. He expressed regret for his actions, noting that despite his efforts to help people in such situations, they never showed him any gratitude after their problems were resolved.

Isaac shared, “I have tried helping people four times, and I counted it as a mistake. I called myself Police boss. I never worked as a Police officer. Before my arrest, one of those who used to seek my assistance, a welder, approached me for help with his brother in Police custody. He provided me with the contact of an ACP, and I called him. Most of those I assisted never came back to thank me.”

The Oyo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, explained that Isaac was apprehended following numerous public complaints about his use of fake identities to extort significant sums of money from them. Osifeso added that Isaac had been using this false identity for over a decade, not only to extort money from the public but also to gain unwarranted advantages from both junior and senior police officers.

Upon his arrest, many of Isaac’s victims identified him, recounting how they had parted with substantial amounts of money under the false belief that they were dealing with a genuine Commissioner of Police or an Assistant Inspector General of Police.

In addition to Isaac, the Oyo State Police Command also arrested other suspects, including armed robbers, car thieves, cultists, and suspected cattle rustlers, among others, as part of their efforts to combat criminal activities in the region.
