The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal made a crucial decision on Wednesday, as it declined to accept the European Union Election Observers Mission’s report concerning the presidential election held on February 25, 2023. The report was presented by Peter Obi and the Labour Party.
The court’s ruling was based on the grounds that the report had not been submitted by an authorized official of the European Union Election Observers Mission, which is the entity responsible for authoring and safeguarding the document.
Additionally, the tribunal also rejected the submission of 18,088 blurred result sheets by the petitioners, citing the absence of a clear connection between these result sheets and specific polling units. The petitioners had failed to specify the relevant polling units in their petition.
Notably, Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party had previously submitted the authentic copy of the report while presenting their case before the tribunal.
