After much anticipation, the Lagos Blue rail line is now operational. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu became the first passenger as the train started commercial operations on Monday, September 4, 2023. The train departed from the Marina terminal, bound for Mile 2.

Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of the Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), had announced the launch during a press briefing the previous Wednesday. She disclosed that the system is set to transport 175,000 passengers daily. While originally planned for the first quarter of 2023, the start date was delayed to ensure all necessary preparations were in place.

The Lagos Blue Rail Line will run from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily, providing convenient transportation for commuters in the state.
