A Chief Magistrates Court in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos State, has ordered the remand of three men in the Ikoyi Correctional Centre on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and belonging to an unlawful society, commonly associated with cultism.

The defendants, namely Solomon Samuel (38), Ibrahim Mohammed (27), and Moses Ogundepo (25), are facing multiple counts, including conspiracy, illegal possession of a firearm, and being part of an unlawful society.

Chief Magistrate Mr. Peter Nwaka decided not to take the pleas of the defendants and instructed that they be held in custody pending the receipt of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Nwaka directed the prosecutor to prepare a duplicate case file and send it to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal guidance. The case was adjourned until September 28.

According to the prosecutor, SP Thomas Nurudeen, the alleged offences were committed on July 23 at Ojumola Street in the Lagos Magisterial District. The men, along with other individuals still at large, were purported members of an unlawful society. They were found in possession of a locally made single-barrel gun, along with an expended cartridge.

The charges against the defendants contravene sections 2 (3) (a) (b), 27 (1) (a) (b), and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised). The case highlights the legal efforts to address criminal activities associated with unlawful societies and firearms possession.
