‘Man United Will Regret Not Signing Osimhen’

    Published on

In the aftermath of Manchester United’s lackluster attacking performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers, UK columnist Tom Collomosse suggests that the club will come to regret not pursuing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen during the summer transfer window. Collomosse’s remarks were published in PUNCH Sports Extra.

Despite United’s apparent interest in Osimhen, the club was reportedly put off by Napoli’s high valuation of the player. Additionally, United failed to meet the asking price for Harry Kane, who eventually joined Bayern Munich. Instead, United opted to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta in a deal that could potentially cost £72 million.

In his column for the Daily Mail following Manchester United’s narrow 1-0 victory over Wolves, Collomosse pointed out that the team’s attacking issues may intensify if they don’t address the problem before Hojlund returns from injury:

“They (United) were toothless in front of goal against Gary O’Neil’s men, and if they have not resolved this problem when Hojlund returns, the pressure will be even greater,” Collomosse wrote.

He further highlighted the need for a top-line center-forward with a proven track record, especially since Marcus Rashford, who played in a central role against Wolves, has been inconsistent in that position. Collomosse suggested that both Osimhen and Kane would have been ideal options, given their goal-scoring history and capabilities.

Collomosse believes that Osimhen, with his all-around skills and strong personality, could have been a perfect fit for United. He also mentioned that even if the price tags for Osimhen and Kane were considered steep, there were other potential options like Goncalo Ramos or Randal Kolo Muani.

The column underscores the potential missed opportunities in United’s pursuit of a reliable and prolific striker and the potential consequences of not addressing their attacking deficiencies adequately.
