Aisha Yesufu, the Nigerian activist, has emphasized the importance of not disregarding the discrepancies in the February 2023 election. She expressed her belief that if the election had been free and fair, Nigerians would have been able to focus on other demands from the government.

Yesufu lamented the long-standing tradition of expecting Nigerians to move on after an unfair election, stating that this mindset has hindered the country’s progress for years. She urged citizens to resist being mocked and to remain steadfast in their beliefs, advocating for a shift in perspective where mockery is not accepted as a norm.

Taking to Twitter, she stated, “If the February 2023 election was conducted with fairness, credibility, and transparency, without any data integrity issues, violence, or suppression, and if the results were accurately declared by INEC, we would have moved forward to concentrate on governance and making demands for good governance, accountability, and transparency. However, it is unfair to expect people to move on from such a travesty, or worse, to mock them for not doing so. This kind of mindset has been holding us back as a nation for generations, and I pray that this is the time we break away from it and stand firm, no matter what criticism is thrown our way. We are already facing enough challenges as a nation and should not accept being mocked as a way of life.”
