The Senate has given the green light to the former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, for a ministerial position on Monday.

He stated, “I accepted the nomination to serve as a minister because of my deep passion for Nigeria.”

During the screening process, the representatives of Rivers State, led by Senator Barinada Mpigi (PDP, Rivers Southeast), praised Wike as the finest leader in the state, asserting that his resume could hardly encompass his impactful work.

“The Excellency, former Governor Nyesom Wike, is undoubtedly the best for Rivers State. He is not just our leader but also a role model.”

The Senate President, GodsWill Akpabio, subsequently invited Wike to take a bow and exit the session, acknowledging his exceptional contributions.

Earlier, the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, expressed admiration for the transformative work carried out by Wike in Rivers State and questioned if he could replicate the same success as a Minister.

Wike, accompanied by his wife, appeared at the National Assembly for his ministerial screening, generating attention and anticipation for his future endeavors.

Nyesom Wike is among the first set of ministerial nominees submitted by President Bola Tinubu, and the Senate will proceed with screening the remaining nominees.
