Dutch Eredivisie giants, Ajax, have chosen to exclude Nigerian defender, Calvin Bassey, from their pre-season squad as the player is set to depart the club this summer.
Ajax is heading to Germany for their final phase of pre-season training, but Calvin Bassey won’t be joining them, as he edges closer to completing his move to Premier League club Fulham.
Recent reports indicate that the Nigerian international is expected to undergo a medical examination in England this week as he prepares to bid farewell to Ajax just a year after joining from Glasgow Rangers.
Fulham’s manager, Marco Silva, has expressed keen interest in signing Calvin Bassey and intends to pair him with Southampton’s Ghanaian defender, Mohammed Salisu, in the upcoming season.
Sky Sports has reported that Fulham is on the verge of finalizing contracts with both players. The Premier League club is estimated to spend £15 million each on acquiring Salisu and Bassey.
Fulham’s decision to bolster their defensive lineup came after Nigerian defender Tosin Adarabioyo was made available for sale, with one season remaining on his contract. The club aims to generate funds from the sale of Adarabioyo as Coach Silva continues his efforts to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season.
While there have been rumors linking Adarabioyo to Tottenham Hotspur, no official bid from the North London side has been reported yet. The 25-year-old defender’s future remains uncertain as transfer speculations continue.
