The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has disclosed that the governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, is currently incapacitated due to illness. Adamu made this announcement during a meeting between the party’s national leadership and APC state chairmen.
Addressing the state chairmen, Adamu expressed regret over Governor Akeredolu’s extreme incapacity and informed them that the governor is currently hospitalized overseas. He extended his well wishes and prayers for Akeredolu’s speedy recovery.
Furthermore, the national chairman stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is engaged in extensive consultations before finalizing his list of ministerial nominees. He explained that the nomination of ministers will be the first step, followed by the screening process and formal appointment by the President. Only after these steps will the specific ministerial assignments be disclosed to the public.
Adamu’s revelation comes after Governor Akeredolu, who also serves as the chairman of the South West Governor’s Forum, sent a letter to the State House of Assembly, requesting an indefinite extension of his medical leave. The governor, who has been in and out of hospitals, had initially planned to resume his duties this week but decided to extend his medical leave indefinitely.
While the exact nature of Governor Akeredolu’s ailment remains unclear, his prolonged absence is expected to have implications for the 2024 governorship election in Ondo State.
