The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the collapse of three towers due to the tripping of the Ikeja West-Osogbo 330KV line during a windy rainfall, resulting in a load loss of 165 megawatts.

The incident, according to a statement signed by Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, happened on Wednesday 2 April, 2025 at approximately 9:22 PM at a distance of about 14.9km from Ikeja-West transmission substation.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announces that on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at approximately 9:22 pm, the Ikeja-West/Osogbo 330kV line tripped, at a distance of about 14.9 km from Ikeja-West Transmission Substation. The incident occurred during windy rainfall, resulting in a load loss of 165 MW,” TCN revealed.

The Company also said that a thorough investigation, revealed extensive damage to Tower 528, which collapsed due to a trailer truck hitting detached conductors on Tower 527. The incident also affected Tower 526 and Tower 524.

TCN assured that its engineers are working diligently to repair the affected towers and ensure normal bulk power supply to Ikeja, Eko, and Ibadan DisCos.

It further disclosed that the 165 MW load loss has already been diverted through other lines to the affected DisCos to minimize the impact of the incident on the affected DisCos.

TCN, however restated its commitment to providing efficient and reliable transmission of bulk electricity nationwide.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced that the schedule power outage being experienced across most parts of the city is intended to facilitate the ongoing construction work on the collapsed tower by the FCDA, which is anticipated to be completed today Friday.

“Dear Valued Customers in Garki 2, NNPC Quarters, CBN Quarters, National Hospital, Areas 1, 2 & 3, Embassy Area, Trademore, Kabusa, Lokogoma, Sunny Ville, Legislative Quarters, and Surrounding Areas.

“We wish to inform you of the planned power outage scheduled for today Friday, April 4, 2025, from 9:00am to 12:00pm.
