2027: Stop deceptive politics, SDP slams APC, drums support for Akwashiki

    ‎

‎Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nasarawa State, Ibrahim Likita Ajegena, has lambasted the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for what he called deceptive politics and misinformation ahead of 2027 general elections.

    ‎

‎Ajegena spoke in Lafia while inaugurating campaign structures for the SDP candidate for Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency, Hon Solomon Akwashiki.

    ‎

‎He said the APC was spreading falsehoods instead of presenting a convincing manifesto to Nigerians and urged voters to reject misinformation.

    ‎

‎The SDP chairman, who said he is not from the same constituency as Akwashiki, noted that he assessed the candidate’s competence and found him capable of effective representation.

    ‎

‎He charged the newly inaugurated campaign structures to work collectively, stressing that electing the right candidate determines quality representation.

    ‎

‎Ajegena warned supporters against allowing their votes to be compromised, insisting the party must protect its mandate from polling units to the federal constituency collation centre.

    ‎

‎He also dismissed rumours being circulated about the governorship ambition of former Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu Abubakar, saying parties should be responsible for communicating information on their own candidates.

    ‎

‎”Our doors are open; if you realise your failure, come and join the SDP. It is not yet over,” he declared, urging voters to support SDP candidates in 2027.

    ‎

‎Meanwhile, the Senate has ruled out further amendment to the Electoral Act 2026 before the 2027 polls, saying changing the rules mid-game amounts to shifting the goalposts.

    ‎

‎Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Yemi Adaramodu, said the Act already assented to by President Bola Tinubu will govern the 2027 elections, following the Supreme Court judgment of September 24, 2026 that restored Sections 77(5), 77(6), 77(7) and 84(2) earlier voided by the Court of Appeal.
