Governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Bauchi State, Yakubu Adamu, has launched a N200 million bursary programme for Bauchi students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The initiative was announced in a statement by Alhaji Hamza Koshe Akuyam, Director-General of the APM Governorship Campaign Council.
Akuyam said the scheme is funded entirely from a portion of campaign donations received by the candidate from friends and well-wishers.
He explained that the funds were redirected to boost education in the state and ease financial pressure on students.
According to him, the primary objective is to mitigate financial challenges faced by students and give them peace of mind to pursue their studies.
The DG said the bursary forms part of a broader human development agenda by the APM candidate, listing focus areas of the agenda to include education, entrepreneurship, technology, agriculture and artisanship.
Akuyam noted that the initiative is intended to complement ongoing educational interventions of the current administration.
He referenced existing state schemes such as the Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme, KEEP, under Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
The campaign council said the bursary would target Bauchi indigenes enrolled in universities, polytechnics and colleges nationwide.
It pledged to continue supporting citizens with various development programmes to consolidate achievements recorded by the present administration.
Application modalities for the N200 million bursary, according to the council, will be announced in due course.
