Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof Mahmood Yakubu has for the umpteenth time assured Nigerians and the international community of the readiness of the Commissio to ensure that next years general elections are free, fair and credible

In this regard, he said INEC is working in earnest with stakeholders to address obstacles to smooth elections in 2023, including logistical challenges.

Addressing a meeting of logistics experts, professional bodies, banks and other stakeholders at a meeting in Lagos organised by Action Aid Nigeria and development partners, Prof Yakubu said the commission was poised to build on the success it recorded during the recent off-season governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun in next year’s poll.

He recalled that the logistics problem was one of the initial setbacks of the 2019 general election and expressed confidence in the readiness of the stakeholders to support the commission to achieve set objectives and sustain the improved progress so far made by the commission.

“Today, the list of candidates for State elections (Governorship and State Houses of Assembly) will be published in all our offices nationwide and uploaded to the Commission’s website as required by law.

For the Governorship election held in 28 States of the Federation, the 18 political parties have nominated a total of 837 candidates and their running mates.

For State Assembly constituencies, 10,240 candidates are vying for the seats

“With just 143 days to the 2023 General Election, he said much is required for the stakeholders with partnership and support from Action Aid Nigeria, we look forward to actionable recommendations that will ensure seamless logistics for the 2023 General Election.
