A tragic incident unfolded in Minna, Niger state, as a 14-year-old girl named Joy Afekafe was arrested for her involvement in the murder of Dr. Fumilola Adefolalu, a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, Minna. The incident occurred on Saturday, October 28.

Joy, who confessed to the crime during her arrest at the Bosso Police Station in Minna, revealed that she went to the lecturer’s house with her classmates, Walex and Smart, to confront and beat her up. According to Joy, they intended to harm the lecturer because she had been sent away by the deceased. Fearful that the lecturer would report them if left alive, they decided to kill her.

The shocking account provided by Joy detailed how Walex and Smart initially struck the lecturer with a stool before repeatedly stabbing her with knives. Despite the victim’s pleas, they continued the attack. After the brutal assault, they took the lecturer’s phone, laptop, and car battery before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.

Joy disclosed that she had been living with the deceased for three weeks but was asked to leave due to her misconduct. The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Wasiu, confirmed the arrest and stated that the police are actively pursuing Joy’s accomplices, Walex and Smart. The investigation is ongoing, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiry and prosecution.
